The early days of uPVC windows were marked by chunky designs that stood out a mile from traditional timber or aluminium frames. They may have retained heat more effectively, but they weren’t what you’d describe as aesthetically pleasing.
Luckily, time and technology has changed everything, and today uPVC windows are available in slimline formats that not only encompass high-performance energy efficiency but also look great – finally, the chunky has been chucked out!

Sheerwater slimline windows are of a similar thickness to single glazed timber windows and have up to 12 per cent more glass than a standard window. Can windows of such thinness retain as much heat as their standard equivalents?
The answer is ‘yes’ – European standards state that uPVC must have the highest category (CAT A) outside wall thickness of 2.8mm – the Slimline system is 3mm. In addition, this window features five heat-trapping chambers which makes it is one of the most energy-efficient around. Sheerwater slimline windows have been awarded a Window Energy Rating (WER) of A+, making sure that your home stays warm and dry while helping to cut the cost of rising energy bills.
So we have more glass on offer and excellent heat retention. How about looks?
Well, we don’t shirk in that department either. Our slimline windows are available in a range of colours to suit pretty much any property, modern or traditional, and encompass everything from contemporary sleek grey frames or heritage wood-effect frames to suit a much older property. Additionally, the slimline system offers a choice of Bevelled or Ovolo beading, depending on your preference.
Are they safe and secure?
Naturally, security is of great importance, so we shouldn’t confuse slimline with a reduction in safety standards. We make sure to locate and install the securest products on the market, offering maximum security that doesn’t compromise good looks. Our range is fitted with Trojan multi-point, shootbolt locking mechanisms that have been rigorously tested to achieve BS7950 safety rating. Slimline windows also come with security glazing to prevent the removal of the glass units, as well as hinge protection to offer strong resistance against forcible removal.
